Purpose: to kick off World Breastfeeding Week 2008 in China

 

Topic:  Mother Support: Going for the Gold

 

As we celebrate the 2008 Olympics and the 2008 World Breastfeeding Week, the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action calls for increased support for mothers striving to achieve the gold standard of infant feeding:  to breastfeed their babies exclusively for the first six months, and continue breastfeeding together with feeding other appropriate complementary foods, up to two years and beyond.

A mother representative speak from personal experience on the need for support and how she received it from various circles to enable her to continue breastfeeding (to be invited)

 

Beverly Peckous from Beijing United Family Hospital with translator – importance of health care providers to support breastfeeding mothers (to be invited)

 

LLL representative Yanhong Wheeler – Breastfeeding—the Gold Standard.  Risks of not breastfeeding, benefits of breastfeeding

 

LLL representative Ivy Makelin –  LLL supporting BF mothers for 51 years

 

Ding Bing – Actions for Support & circles

 

Cake cutting – a large cake with the 6 rings in a circle representing the support a breastfeeding woman can call upon for help and encouragment.
